Stylishly Recharged: Chicken Plates, Nature Dates & Sweet Bonds
Happy Friday!!
I’ve been soaking up every bit of my much needed spring break. This week has been super relaxing, and I even managed to knock out some work for my clients in the midst of all the downtime.
The break kicked off beautifully with Good Friday! I got to be the “cool auntie” and hang out with my niece and nephew. We ran a few errands together that morning, including a quick trip to the mall so I could find a last-minute Easter outfit. They actually picked out my pants (period!), and I found a cute top to match.
After errands, I grabbed us something to eat—and naturally, they begged me to take them to the park. “Please, Azha! The park is free.” I felt finessed lowkey😂. I told them I needed a quick nap first… which turned into a big nap. I guess all the school work and rehearsals had caught up with me. But I kept my promise! We went to the park, and grabbed snowballs on the way.
If you know me, then you know I love kids. I genuinely enjoy getting to know their little personalities. They wore me out, the park wore them out—so overall, we had a ball!
Easter Sunday was lovely. I went to church, as I do every Sunday, and got to see my godchild—which always makes my whole day. He’s growing so fast and learning new things every time I see him. The moment he saw me after church, he reached for me without hesitation. My heart? Melted. He’s such a sweet, vibrant little soul. And grown, too!
Later that day, my brother and I had a late lunch at Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken in downtown New Orleans. It was actually our second time going this month—it’s that good! Great food, good vibes, and kind service. I got a three-piece (all legs) with fries and baked beans. My brother ordered the same, but swapped the beans for mac-n-cheese. 10/10 would recommend.
Monday was a little more adventurous—I went hiking at Clark Creek Natural Area in Mississippi. The drive was a smooth hour, and we vibed to gospel music on the way there. Being outdoors was so refreshing. The trees, the waterfalls… it was all so serene. That trail definitely gave my legs a workout with all those hills! We even got a little lost 😂 but figured it out. Honestly, I love nature. I want to do more of that—fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, ATV riding, allat!
Tuesday was a chill day inside doing styling work for a few clients.
Wednesday I tapped into my inner girly girl. I went to Sephora and Ulta to restock on my self-care must-haves. I also picked up some new skincare because lately I’ve been getting these annoying breakouts on the right side of my face. I don’t know whyyyyy this is happening, but it’s seriously pissing me off and making me feel ugly. If you have any suggestions, drop them in the comments please 😂.
I also treated myself to a new bag from Coach–the Andrea Shoulder Bag in their signature print. So cute and dainty (: I actually wore it that night to an event at LSU.
That night, I was honored to judge at LSU’s Train Like An Alpha event. The last time the Alphas hosted TLAA was back when I was still on campus—six years ago! I actually participated in that one and was the only Greek girl to do so. My team won (of course 🤭), and I was named Most Valuable Seller, which is why they asked me to come back and judge!
I truly enjoyed myself! It was definitely a step up from the one we had in 2019. The boys did a good job at putting it all together, and they had a nice turn out. The crowd was having a time. There was wayyyy more greek participation. There were AKAs, some Deltas, and some Zetas. It was turnt! There were six teams, and each team came and left it all on the stage. I was highly entertained. It was all around a great event.
Last night, I attended my brother’s dance concert at Southern University. This is Southern’s second year with their dance minor program, and this year's show was spectacular. Watching my brother perform always fills me with pride. His growth as a dancer has been beautiful to witness. As his big sister, it makes me emotional knowing I helped plant a seed in his journey.
I’m actually going again tonight! If you're in the Baton Rouge area and need something to do, tickets are just $10. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7!
All in all, this spring break has been exactly what I needed. I head back to work Monday—and back into the chaos of getting my 68 students ready for our own upcoming dance concert. Sooo... pray for me 😂
And just like that... the countdown to the end of the school year begins!
Stylishly yours,
Azha Moné
